generationYOU Past Events

There is a lot of chatter about who young people are, what they are capable of and where their future lies. At generationYOU we believe that their potential is limitless – sometimes they just need a hand to unleash it. So we run events which give young people the chance to learn from industry legends and grow key skills which they need in addition to their degree, to thrive in the workplace!

One Day Events.

At our one day events, we focus on the skills all employers seek from graduates. Think communication, problem solving, personal branding, leadership, networking, emotional intelligence and more.

While these might sound basic, they are the 7% that give attendees the kick-start to start hustling, getting sh*t done and standing out from the crowd. To date, we have run our one day events in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide!

What we covered.

>> Enterprise Skills: Addressing key skills that everyone needs including leadership, EQ, problem solving, communication + more.

>> Hustling: Learning how to say YES to opportunities and hustle like there is no tomorrow.

>> Networking: Turning strangers into connections and friends into raving fans.

>> Recruitment Q&A: A session aimed at employability i.e. practical advice to help attendees secure their next role.

>> Creating Opportunities: Learning to recognise and seize opportunities that will help attendees achieve goals in their lives and careers!

>> Personal Branding: Who we are and how we project this to the world.

>> The Future of Work: Preparing attendees for the future workplace of tomorrow.

>> Defining a Career: Learning how to integrate work into our extraordinary lives.

genYOU Inspire.

Imagine if you received a toolbox, one which would not only help you secure the job you really want, but also be awesome at it! We’re not just talking about technical knowledge, but the additional traits, attitudes and skills which will help you to stand out of the crowd. That skills toolbox is generationYOU.

Proudly supported by Brisbane City Council, genYOU Inspire is a series of short events that bring together local legends with a single goal – to help Brisbane’s young people unleash their potential at work and in life!

Join us for genYOU Inspire in 2019.

What we covered.

1 // How to create a CV and Cover Letter for maximum impact: Whether you are looking for your first job, a part time role, internship or tips to progress onto your second role, this session is about the two key tools that will help you get your foot in the door – namely your CV and cover letter.

2 // Learn how to network like a pro: Whilst there is an art to networking, the challenge is in maintaining and growing relationships that matter. Irrespective of whether you are a student, graduate, first jobber or school leaver, being able to leverage your connections is a skill that will benefit you for life.

3 // Enterprise Skills. What they are and why you need them: Securing a job isn’t enough anymore. Success comes from making yourself valuable, solving problems, being efficient and generating results (even in part time roles). You need to be strong in areas such as leadership, communication, emotional intelligence and creative thinking.

4 // Building an outstanding personal brand: Your personal brand is the most powerful asset that you will carry with you throughout your life. It often precedes you and is certainly what people will remember.

5 // How to ensure your career is on track: This session will help us ask some tough questions – around what a career really is, how your work can form part of a happy and fulfilling life, how you can advance your career, how to upskill and change careers and more.

genYOU Doyenne.

Since 2015 generationYOU has been focussed on helping young people stand out from the crowd and find their career edge. Many things have changed during this time, but one element has remained consistent – the enthusiasm from young women to better navigate the world of work.

In the age of #metoo, gender diversity and a general push for women to take up more leadership positions, our younger generation is constantly reminded that their gender will, at times, be a challenge in their career.

genYOU Doyenne tackled those challenges head on, sharing the stories, perspective and career advice of 8 outstanding women leaders.

What we covered.

>> Advice from the trenches. There is no better learning than from those that have ‘been there, done that’. This is a great opportunity to engage in a conversation with one of Brisbane’s best female leaders!

>> Building your tribe – learn to network like a pro. Tribes are built through give and take. The challenge is to not simply meet strangers but to foster relationships.

>> Developing leadership skills for impact. Irrespective of how you view leadership, it is a necessary skill for any workplace of the future.

>> Unlocking emotional intelligence. EQ is a necessary skill we need to build over time, particularly as it is one of the top 10 in-demand job skills.

>> The future is yours – take control of your career! Hear from and ask some of the strongest, fearless (and most badass) female leaders we know. Irrespective of what your dream role is – your career is in your hands!

What some of our attendees have to say …

I’ve watched a lot of TedX Talks, and read a lot of self development books, but nothing beats actually being in a positive and uplifting space in which people share not only the good parts of their stories, but also reveal some level of vulnerability which you can’t really get from staring through the silver screen.
– Alice Tran, Sydney One Day 2018

Simple, power-packed and practical. #NoFilterContent was absolutely amazing because I am a sucker for real, raw information from people who’ve gotten their hands dirty and aren’t afraid to share their experiences.
– Dora Dias, Melbourne One Day 2018

generationYOU is a great place to gain valuable knowledge for the workforce and a great place to meet like-minded people.
– Hamza Al Ansari, genYOU Inspire 2018

With the ‘#NoFilter’ attitude, genYOU really takes a more modern approach on employability skills and networking; allowing attendees to feel comfortable, and un-pressured to act in a certain way.
– Riley Thiedecke, genYOU Inspire 2018
