genYOU Story 14 – Yohanna
Our 14th genYOU Story features Yohanna Handjaja from The University of Adelaide. Yohanna has a positive attitude that we know is going to help her keep flying through her goals!
Name: Yohanna Handjaja
Current Role: Master Candidate of Global Food and Agricultural Business at The University of Adelaide and 2017 Study Adelaide Student Ambassador.
Could you tell us a bit about yourself and where you are headed in your career right now?
I’m a final year student (officially in my last semester) who is completing a Masters in Global Food and Agricultural Business at The University of Adelaide. I am proud to be an Indonesian woman who likes to challenge myself and push my limits in order to achieve my dreams and goals.
Besides study life, I am also working within my faculty, as well as completing research as an intern for my final report! I am also involved with Study Adelaide as one of their student ambassadors for 2017.
It’s a great opportunity for me to experience Australia in a working atmosphere – these experiences really develop my new skills and also help me build a new network!
Market research and business analysing are the areas that I am most interested in and being able to use my problem solving and analytical skills for my career, is my aspiration. I’m so grateful I had the chance to do practical market research during my studies (my internship), with one of the local SA Pastry Companies in Tanunda, Barossa. Dealing with ethics, interviews and qualitative research are broadening my knowledge and I hope I can be more involved with Australian Businesses and Government Companies in the future.
How has or how is generationYOU helping you achieve your goals?
generationYOU connects me with a lot of ideas, empowerment, networks and material for developing myself even further. Even though I am self-motivated, I also need to be “recharged” from time-to-time with great support and facilities which help my self-development; I can find this from generationYOU!
generationYOU made my desires to achieve my goals keep burning, helped me start to get things done and helped keep me motivated!
I also would like to say thank you to my faculty for giving me the opportunity to attend generationYOU 2017, as I was able to join the genYOU network!
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My biggest inspiration is my mother. She is a wonder woman (and I believe every mother out there is also a wonder woman for their children). She is a working mother but yet also caring for her family. Even though she may be tired, she always puts her family above her own needs! Her love and tenderness inspires me to be who I am today; an independent woman who wants to make a better world and spread the love to others who need our help!
What is the one piece of advice you would love to share with your millennial peers as you reflect on your own journey?
A great sailor never had an easy journey. If you find difficulties, stay strong! Remember that every problem that can be solved, it just needs more time, patience and persistence. Keep pushing your limits – you never know how strong you are until being strong is the only way to keep you alive! Last but not least – “Ora Et Labora” – pray and work are always my foundation to do anything!
Don’t forget to be good to others too, since what you sow is what you reap! Have a wonderful day everyone!
