genYOU Micro Stories 04

Our generationYOU micro stories are a collection of refreshing insights from millennials that are on their way to unleashing their potential.

For our next micro stories series, our intern Mikky headed out to pick the brains of 10 students on Brisbane’s QUT campus to hear their thoughts on questions we had regarding the journey from studying to a career. Part 4 of the micro stories showcases the answers of 3 of these inspired students that she spoke with.

Raphael Tefera  // Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama), QUT

Lauren Seddon // Diploma of Interior Design, TAFE

Alyza Garcia-Small // Bachelor of Nursing, QUT

How are you working on or towards your ‘WHY’?

“Well I guess working on my ‘why’, being at Uni and studying a creative course, is honing my acting craft, trying different projects and getting involved by taking all the opportunities I’m given.”
>> Raphael Tefera

“I am working towards my diploma to be able to get into a field and a career that I love doing.”
>> Lauren Seddon

“I want to do Nursing because I can help people and I’m hoping to become a Paramedic as well so that’s how I’m working towards my ‘why’.”
>> Alyza Garcia-Small

What is a challenge you’ve had to overcome on your study/career journey so far?

“I think time management has always been a massive challenge for me. I’m a last minute larrikin; I’m not going to deny it. Balancing Uni assessment, work, and outside projects can be a bit of a juggling act.”
>> Raphael Tefera

“I have had to explore many different avenues before finding the course that seems right for me.”
>> Lauren Seddon

“Because it’s my first year, just adapting to everything has been a challenge and doing anatomy is really difficult right now.”
>> Alyza Garcia-Small

What do you think is the best things millennials will bring to the workplace?

“Honestly millennials, especially in the workplace, are so well informed and self-aware. They will bring an openness and fairness that you don’t necessarily get as much in many workplaces.”
>> Raphael Tefera

“I think millennials will bring fresh new ideas in a growing technological world.”
>> Lauren Seddon

“I think millennials can bring a new perspective on the role because we have lived in a different generation compared to the older nurses.”
>> Alyza Garcia-Small
